One Vision for Excellence in Education
 
One Vision for Excellence in Education, a group of non-profits with 501C3 standing under the IRS Code, is conducting a Karaoke Contest at the Coliseum in Fair Park on March 20, 2010 between noon and 3 pm as part of the Walk for Literacy and Health Fair to raise money for its vision in support of the at-risk child. The event is a component of the Teacher of the Year Banquet. The Teacher of the Year Banquet raises money for its non-profits by celebrating the achievement of the teacher of the year from the southern sector of the Dallas ISD  as well as by honoring the exhibition of  Excellence in Education and Community Service. The entry fee for the contest is $20.00; however, if the contestants participate in the Walk for Literacy, the entry fee is $10.00. The entry fee for the walk is $10.00. The admission fee for non-contestants to witness the contest is $10.00; however, the admission to the contest is free, if the individual participates in the Walk for Literacy and pays the $10.00 entry fee for the walk.

 

The contestants compete for a $600.00 purse and a trophy, plus the opportunity to have a $400.00 donation made in their name to one of the schools whose Teacher of the Year will be honored. The winner takes home the $600.00 purse that day, and they draw the name of the school to receive the $400.00 donation randomly at the end of the contest. The trophy is awarded during the Teacher of the Year Banquet on 3 April 2010. They will receive a certificate for the $400.00 donation to the school along with the presentation of the trophy during the banquet. The Banquet is a Black Tie event. The winner of the Karaoke Contest gets free admission to the Banquet, and is also featured on the TOY Banquet website and in the community newspaper. The Karaoke Contest will be emceed by Gil Palmer, radio celebrity and voice over talent. The contest will be judged in five ways: 3 local DJs,including M-Squared of 97.9 FM,  a professional jazz musician, Jeff Aycott, and the enthusiastic participation of the audience. The other two DJs will be named on the website pending confirmation. Each judging method has a 20% weight in the selection of the winner.

 

The rules and regulations for participating in the contest are listed on the website: www.toykaraoke.com.  The contestant can either register online or download and mail in the entry form. Registration online will be available on Wednesday, 3 March 2010All contestants must pay the entry fee and complete registration by 15 March 2010.  The $20.00 entry fee, or the $10.00 entry fee for the contest and the $10.00 entry fee for the Walk for Literacy are payable online through the secured PayPal system. Major credit cards are accepted; however, a $3 handling fee will be applied to all credit card entries. The contestant can also download the entry form and mail the registration to Karaoke Contest; c/o Deborah Dennis; P. O. Box 1869; Cedar Hill, TX 75104. The entry form and the fee can be presented in person to 2035 Chevella Drive, Dallas, TX 75232 between the hours of 12 noon and 3 pm on Tuesdays through Thursdays. The number to call is 972 228-8757. There is no handling fee for entries that are not paid with a major credit card. Credit card payments are accepted in person and through the mail.  A $3. handling fee applies.
